May 10, 2010 (DENVER,CO) - A Senate Committee passed a bill by Senate Majority Leader John Morse (D-Colorado Springs) and Senator Dan Gibbs (D - Summit County) yesterday to thank and honor soldiers who have served in combat since September 11th, 2001 and were seriously wounded in combat.
The bill, SB 211, will provide soldiers a discount for big-game hunting licenses and support them following their return to civilian life. The mission of this program will be to provide assistance to service members in recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration that is worthy of their service and sacrifice.
Sen. Morse said, "The men and women who serve in combat to protect the people of this country deserve our gratitude, respect and honor. This bill will provide one small token of appreciation to our wounded warriors who have sacrificed so much to keep us safe."
Senators Morse and Gibbs want to make every effort to ensure that the women and men returning from war are welcomed home, well cared for and given every opportunity to enjoy Colorados resources and recreational opportunities. SB 211 offers a one more expression of gratitude to the heroic veterans from Colorado.
This bill will reduce or eliminate big game hunting license fees for wounded veterans and will create a big game hunting license preference for those veterans seriously wounded in recent combat operations.
Sen. Gibbs, who is the Co-Chair of the Legislative Sportsmans Caucus and Executive Council member of the National Assembly of Sportsmen Caucuses, said, "Our service men and women take care of us. This is one small way we can begin to express our gratitude to them."
